Whitepoint Flag Football Rules
**NEW - 7v7 League
-7 Players on field at one time 3 man line on offense Center and 2 Guard/Tackles
12-14 man teams for subbing
60-yard field, with end zones of ten yards. Midfield is the 30-yard line.
** NEW - Width of Field 40 yards
**NEW - THROW OFF to Start Each Half - Junior Bantams and Bantams throw off from own end zone, Juniors and Pee Wees throw off from Midfield - possession at 5 yard line for all other possessions - Blocking is allowed on Throw Offs
Offensive team has 3 plays to cross midfield. If successful, team has another 3 downs to score a touchdown.
Game time is 40 minutes running time. (2 -20 minute halves) Stop time in last 1 minute of each half. (Out of bounds and incomplete passes)
Except Pee-Wees, no ties. If the game is tied after 40 minutes, college overtime rules apply. Each team has 30 seconds to run a play once the referee spots the ball.
One delay of game warning before delay of game penalty is enforced.
Each team has 2 time outs per half. No carry overs.
Referee can stop clock for injuries and at their discretion.
**NEW - Team that Wins the coin toss at the beginning of the game has the choice at the start of the game to THROW OFF or RECEIVE . A team CANNOT start both halves on offense.
-ex. If you choose to start the game on offense in the first half you must start on defense in the 2nd half
**Coaches are not allowed on the field for the coin toss, they must send out their captains for the coin toss and the players will decide who gets the ball to open the game
**NEW - QB can run with ball if opposing defense Blitzes from the 10 yard cone not if the defensive ends rush him
Pitches, underhand laterals and handoffs are permitted behind the line of scrimmage.
No down field handoffs or laterals are permitted.
NO RUN ZONES: 5 yards from midfield and 5 yards from end-zone.
Spinning is allowed and stiff arms are not.
The ball is spotted where the ball carrier’s feet are when the flag is pulled, not where the ball is.
To score a touchdown, the player’s foot, the ball and the flag belt must cross the goal line.
Only one player can be in motion.
The player who takes the hand off or pitch can throw the ball from behind the line of scrimmage.
The center is not eligible to take a direct hand off from the Quarterback. He is eligible to catch a pass.
All players on the field are eligible to catch a pass.**NEW - With the 3 man Line The Guard/Tackle is NOT eligible to receive a pass, all other offensive players including the Center can receive a pass
POSSESSION: a player must maintain possession long enough to make a football move. One foot must be in bounds for a “”good” catch
Simultaneous possession belongs to offensive player.
Interceptions can be returned for touchdowns but not on a PAT attempt.
Interception possession takes over at the point the play is dead.
**NEW- QB can run if opposing defense Blitzes from the 10 yard cone not if the defensive ends rush him
Over hand and Shovel passes are allowed.
Screen passes are legal.
**NEW - the offensive team must have a 3 man Line. 1 center and 2 Guard/Tackles
Open hand blocking only. No loading up, no elbows, no forearms, and no shoulders are allowed. Any blocks to head will be penalized 5 or 10 yards depending on intent and severity. Blocking is allowed downfield
**NEW - PANCAKE BLOCKS Unsportsmanlike 10 yard penalty, if player is deliberately pushed to the ground. Bigger players need to know they can put the block on but should not be pushing players to the ground
**NEW - PASS RUSH - the defense must have 2 defensive ends playing in front of the 2 guard/tackle 5 Yards off the ball, No nose tackle over center. Defensive ends can rush the passer. 10 Yard Cone Blitz will also be in effect however if a team sends a 3rd man Blitzing the QB can take off and run with the ball, however the QB cannot run ball up the middle has to be run outside the guard/tackle
A defensive player may rush the Quarterback from 10 yards downfield. 1 player starting from a cone placed in the middle of the field 10 yards downfield is the designated rusher, and is the only player allowed to rush the Quarterback. He must raise his hand before the start of the play.**NEW - If a player raises his hand from 10 yard blitz cone the refs will know that the QB is now eligible to run the ball
After the ball is handed off the 10-yard rush rule no longer in effect, and all defenders may rush the line of scrimmage.
The referee will mark the 10-yard” pass rush line” before every play.
Defensive players can block passes but cannot make any contact with the QB. (Penalty)
Flags can only be pulled from players carrying the ball.
Defensive players cannot hold a player and then pull the flags. Ref can call penalty.
All jerseys must be tucked in so flag belts can be fully exposed.
No flag guarding, no stiff arms or any covering of flags to prevent pulling.
Offensive: Offsides, illegal motion, delay of game- Illegal forward pass - 5-yard penalty
Offensive pass interference, illegal block- 10 yards and replay the down.
Flag guarding- 10 yards from the spot of the foul. Play stands.
Defensive: offside, illegal rush- 5 yards penalty, replay the down.
Pass interference, illegal contact, holding runner, roughing the passer and
. Tackling- 10 yards and Automatic first down
TDs 6 points/ extra point 5yards 1 pt./ extra pt 10 yards 2 pts./ Safety 2 pts.
The ball must be snapped between the legs to start play. Shotgun is allowed.
Play is dead and whistle blown when flag is pulled, player goes out of bounds, ball carrier’s knee hits the ground; a touchdown or safety is scored.
Fumbles are dead. If a QB fumbles center snap he can still pick it up .
